How to be Safe in the Sun

Posted by Lucy at 09:33
I spent today at the beach  with my mum and my grandparents, who we're visiting at the moment, and we had a great time, just watching the world go by! However, on days like this, you should be protected from the sun! Here are my top tips on staying safe in the sun:

1. Always, always, always wear sun cream! They say that you should use plenty of sun cream on the following areas: your face, ears and neck, your chest and tummy, you upper and lower back, your legs (back and front), your arms and your feet So, basically anywhere that's exposed to the sun! UVA and UVB rays are still around when it's cloudy or raining, so try to get into a habit of putting on sun cream every day, even in Winter!

2. Stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm! This is when the sun's at it's hottest, so it's when you are at highest risk of burning. If staying in the shade is too hard and you really fancy a dip in the sea, pull on a t-shirt, so that your shoulders are protected at least!

3. Stay hydrated! Drinking plenty of water is really important as your body loses lots of fluid when the weather's hot due to perspiring (in other words, sweating)!

4. Wear a hat and sunglasses! This is an important one! Sunglasses protect your eyes by filtering out UV rays; hats protect your head from the sun and it's horrible, nasty rays that burn and age your skin!

By following these tips and advice, you can enjoy the sun whilst being safe!
